What a privilege it was to photograph the birth of my dear friend's first born! When she called, asking me to be present to photograph her son's birth, I became absolutely giddy with excitement. I will always count it as one of the greatest honors of my life!

Her labor was long, but everything went smoothly and there was such a peace surrounding the expectant couple. They worked so well together, as I'm sure they will continue to do in the parenting of their precious child.

Why Hire a Birth Photographer

My husband did a wonderful job of documenting our third birthing experience. But even though we had a camera at each of our births, we have very little by which to remember births one and two.

While birth is beautiful and sacred, it can also be hectic, and there will almost certainly be little surprises. By hiring a professional photographer, you can ensure that the overwhelming emotion of your child's birth day will live on for generations to come.

Choosing the right birth photographer is very important. I will arrive for active labor and stay through your first postpartum hour. As a trained midwife, and a mother, my goal to blend quietly into the background, capturing your intimate moments with artful dignity. And because I shoot in hi-resolution digital, you will only be charged a flat one-time fee. The one-hundred plus photos of your child's birth will be yours to keep and print (from the company of your choice) at your discretion.

My name is Sarah Valente and I am a mother of five, two sets of twins and one singleton. My first set was born via cesarean, my second set was a hospital VBAC, and my singleton was born VBAC, with midwives, in a birthing center. I am a trained midwife with a passion for natural birth, but my varied birthing experiences have taught me that all birth is beautiful and miraculous.

I am a self-taught photographer, obtaining never-ending inspiration from my five willing models. But after shooting my first birth in June of 2009, it was clear that my loves of birth and photography were a perfect combination!
